Q&A – JOEL OTTO

Q: What was your favourite memory while playing for the Flames?

A: I had lots of great moments playing with Flames, but winning Stanley Cup and hoisting it in the Montreal Forum has to be my most memorable.

Q: Who was your favourite teammate and why?

A: I was fortunate to have played with many teammates that I consider good friends. I came to the Flames around the same time as Gary Suter and we lived together for one year, and then had condos next to each other so we would spend a lot of time together. Good hockey player and quite funny.

Q: Where did you settle down when you retired from hockey?

A: My wife and I decided to call Calgary home after I retired from the Philadelphia Flyers. Great place to raise a family.

Q: What did you do after you hung up your skates?

A: I helped coach for two years at the University of Calgary under Tim Bothwell, then built golf clubs for a little over two years before I became an assistant coach with the Calgary Hitmen for the last 15 years.

Q: What are your interests and passions outside the game?

A: I really enjoy sports in general. Golf is a huge passion for me, as well as watching and playing all kinds of sports.

Q: Tell us a bit about your family?

A: Wife Kary, son Ben, and daughter Kacey.
